Some books which have inspired us to think about doing this, and which may inspire you too.
- French Revolutions by Tim Moore – doing a one-man recreation of the Tour de France route, very useful on the subject of bidon cleanliness and saddle sores.
- Narrow Dog to Carcassonne by Terry Darlington – creating your own Epic Journey instead of just boring yourself to death.
- Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson – when is an Epic Journey simply too much?
- The Martian by Andy Weir – how to science the hell out of any problem.
- Travels With My Aunt by Graham Greene – taking up Epic Journeys when you’d rather be growing dahlias.
- Three Men In A Boat by Jerome K Jerome – how to make a small journey Epic.
- Winnie The Pooh by A A Milne – an Expotition to the North Pole involving a Collective.
- Germania and Danubia by Simon Winder – fun insights into the first part of our journey.
- The World of Cycling According to G – turned the Silk into an instant expert on long distance cycling.
- Walter the Farting Dog. I am sad to say that this is a constant inspiration to Mr Bat, and the good or bad news is that it is now being made into a movie.
PS New ones for the Vamos! trip to the USA in 2021:
- Another Fine Mess by Tim Moore – across the USA in a Model T Ford finding the kindness of strangers.
- The Oregon Trail, A New American Journey – along the Oregon Trail with mules and a covered wagon.
