For the last 15+ years we have been promising ourselves “just two more years, then we’ll chuck it all in and go and do something Epic. No pockets in a shroud etc, we have to go and do things before some catastrophe happens and we can’t do them any more.”
We’ve been increasingly taking some three-week holidays, which have been a tremendous chance to step back from the working world, but Doris is a closet workaholic and drags an increasingly-privately-reluctant but always entirely-outwardly-supportive Sid back to the Square Mile.
Birthday cards have recently been featuring promises to throw it all in and get away from it all, and last summer in Monterey, Linda tried her best to teach us the life balance she’d learned from her experience with cancer. And that partly worked – Sid stopped work on his return to the UK but Doris said “just a few more months” and renewed her season ticket.
And then she was offered the chance to stop work at the end of January. So this is Doris’s confession – her Epic Journey had to be given a shove by a multinational corporation in order to turn it into reality.
So gosh! 1st February and we are Free To Do It! We are committed to a couple of things in early May, so we have 14 weeks to get ready and then off we go…
