In which Sid and Doris ride through the cloud and largely stay off the N94 to stay in Savines le Lac, a dull place.
The main valley road is the N94. The cycle routing aims to keeps you out of the traffic, usually at the expense of both climb and road surface so through tired little villages. Thus we are with the Boucle d’Izoard early on.
We have views down to the main roads and even when we don’t see much on them feel the routing software has the right of it.
Compare above with below.
Soon we can see rafting and kayaking on the Durance. (Pic to follow if we can get it to work.)
When we do get to cross the Durance Sid is very happy to see a MkII Bailey Bridge with wooden boards. The most adventure all day.
It is about to rain as we reach the Hotel Eden Lac at Savines. (It is not like the hotel of the same name in Montreux.) The cooking is great but the lads running the hotel have no idea of hospitality. However, it is on the way into town. The simple, simple little room does have a view of the lake, our route away and the morrow’s weather.
Do see the map for the exciting progress, even if the day’s ride lacked for incident.
