Vamos! Into the Land of the Jolly Green Giant

In which Sid and Doris fly through the air and come back down to earth.

It’s been over a month since Sid and Doris left the UK, and it’s time for the road trip to start.

The flight from Newark to Denver and then to Eugene gives the doughty duo a chance to see what lies ahead of them.  Even before the plane gets to Iowa the countryside is starting to get somewhat griddy, with irrigation circles appearing in the drier areas of Dakota and up onto the early parts of the Rockies.

Some housing developments on the approach to Denver give some indication of just how huge those field squares/circles are.

Denver airport is very pleasant although with some slightly unsettling reading material on offer.

Joe presented us with a copy of the Cloudspotter’s Guide as we left Nereus, and Doris was very pleased to be able to capture some Kelvin Helmholtz clouds after leaving Denver (the series of little hooks on the horizon).

In to Eugene and time for our first actual meeting with the Jolly Green Giant, complete with Bonkers license plates.  Matt and Steve hand over the car, which they have stuffed with useful spares and tools.

Sid gets a quick lesson in how to manage the automatic box (gently), how to accelerate (gently) and how to brake (vigorously) and then we are off round town to pick up some final bits and bobs.

Ford are still making large vehicles.
