Each one laid individually by hand; Finding vessels; Pooch parks; Alembics; Road buildings.
In Portsmouth for the Millennium, they laid a long Millennium Pathway formed of cobbled stones. My mother was impressed or maybe aghast. “Every one! Is laid individually!! By hand!!!” This has become something of a mantra in the family. So in Lisbon, the capital of Portugal which seems to be the Centre of Individual Stone Pavements, it was very nice to see this monument to The Pavers.
This next one is not a photo but a web site, called vesselfinder.com. I came across it when trying to find out how far in advance we could book the ferry over here. The ferry is called the Galicia and here, oh lucky reader, is the VesselFinder site showing its exact current position and lots of interesting data too. I remembered this at the viewpoint in Lisbon over the Tagus where we saw the cruise ship Artania at the quayside. And Artania is currently here, which at the time I write this although not at the time you will read it, is Funchal. And of course you will try out the site to see where Nereus is currently, and the answer is: here!!! Oh what hours of fun you will have.
This next one is a first for me, but maybe not for you. It is a proper pooch park, a doggy adventure playground, on a site triumphantly carved out of a bit of hillside somewhere in central Lisbon.
And the next one is a photo of some alembics. Because I have never had to write that sentence before.
And finally, a building spotted on the Portuguese main roads, which is a road maintenance building. We saw these in Italy too, but in Italy they are painted a rather dull crimson whereas in Portugal you have to have blue and white paint, and tiles, and twiddly roofs, dontcha know.
