Some random observations from the German countryside

These pictures are not really part of any story, but they might appeal to a reader who is Bonkers.

Firstly, a milestone showing the distance to various places from Friedberg.  The units are old German miles which are about 7km or a bit more than 4 of our current miles.  Maybe the distance that a horse could cover in an hour?

This next one is a level crossing sign.  In the UK our sign for a level crossing is a sweet little puffer train.  Here it’s a no-nonsense, don’t mess with this train picture.  You have been warned.  If you are on the crossing when the train arrives, it’s bye bye you. Nee-nar…. crunch.  It’s funny how often I arrive at the end of the line with bits of derailleur gears hanging from the side of the locomotive.
And finally this couple had built a railway in their front garden.  As you do.  They were actually sitting outside in order to watch the “old-timer” motorbikes travel past.  So we had to screech to a halt and double back to tell them how splendid we thought it was.
PS and also here is Thing that seems to be part of some Competitive Thing Competition.  These appear in many villages.
