Bins Make Rubbish, Turn Off That Mini Fridge, Stretch Out and Have a Nap, Save The Planet One Sheet At A Time
Bins Make Rubbish – It is possible that the absence of rubbish bins in Japan goes back to the Sarin attacks on the subway, when people became uneasy at the sight of even small abandoned things. The absence of bins in the country is total, even by the doorway to enter a hotel, or outside a shop selling food/snacks (you have to take the wrappers back inside). But this photo from the centre of the Hiroshima Peace Park shows you another problem with bins, which is that they actually create rubbish. Every item here has been carefully deposited by someone who thought they were doing the right thing, and the result is a tidal wave of rubbish that is blowing across the park.
Turn Off That Mini-Fridge – we have been remarking at the amount of energy wasted by all those heated toilet seats, but how much heat and noise is generated by in-room mini-fridges, especially given that since Covid there is never anything in them?
Doris has become a dab hand at finding the plug behind the fridge, but they can be tricky to reach, so a big thumbs-up to this hotel who have installed a large on-off switch on top.
Save The Planet One Sheet At A Time! – This is not a one-off photo but a sign that is in every toilet. Maybe it used to be a sign of politeness to only offer visitors a complete toilet roll? Mind you, as it is all single ply… well, the less said about that, the better.
