Today was the first day we’ve cycled three days in a row. All our warm-up rides were two days max, and the last time we did a Beeg Treep was the Tour d’England in 2012 which is a surprisingly (for me) long time ago.

What a fantastic place Amsterdam is. There are shops here with things I had to buy (the various continental e-adaptors) but also shops with things I want to buy. Which presents a problem.

Generally when you plan an Epic Journey you can structure it one of two ways. You can start off in an alien land and gradually come home (think Peking Paris), or you can start off in an easy place and gradually get harder.

So we have disembarked from the ferry, done a bit of cycling and found a coffee shop. And in the coffee shop, to Sid’s delight, is a Dutch car magazine and in the car magazine is a report about the Lane Motor Museum.

Today’s route was more or less a straight dash to the coast. For the first section we cut out all the small roads round Essex villages that we’ve been using for the practice rides, and went straight through Takeley and Dunmow.
