As mentioned, the bikes may not have been 100% shaken-down for this trip, and as we went across Essex the sounds of twang-crunch-b*ll*cks started to emanate from the Epic Progression.

When we’ve been talking to people about the Epic Journey, most people say “oh gosh you will lose tons of weight”.

What do you do 24 hours before going on an Epic Journey?

For the Epic Journey, we are trying to travel light, and that means that detailed maps of the whole of Europe are not coming with us.

In the various practice rides I’ve had the phone in my front pocket (when I have a coat on) or a back pocket (when I don’t) to do the navigation.  This works up to a point, but it means whenever I want to check the route or take photos I have to stop and rootle in pockets.

My bike has been causing us some concern. Nothing major, just a stream of little minor things, each one requiring a surprising amount of fixing.
