Also known as Noodlin’ Around in the Far East.
Sid and Doris are spending seven weeks in Autumn 2025 in the Far East – East of where? Far from what? as Sid would observe. Our American friends might call it the Near West.
Anyway, the plan is to take part in Rally the Globe’s “Islands of Japan marathon”, which means putting Teal the Mini on the ship in May, and Sid and Doris on the plane in September.
The outline is a few days in Bangkok then a flight to Sapporo on Hokkaido where, aside from local tourism, the Mini must be released from Japanese customs before competition starts. The event runs for a month, working its way from the north east to the south west of the four main islands of Japan, finishing in the south at Fukuoka. Teal is then given back to CARS to transport home. S and D will have a break in Phuket – a holiday to recover from our holiday – before going home to school, choirs and the cathedral.
This is a Between Journeys story because the trip has been set up by travel agents and Rally the Globe. There is an itinerary, the route is set and the hotels all booked. This doesn’t mean that all will go smoothly, recall the dramas of the Ypres to Istanbul and the return run. This one might turn out to be Epic, but it is not the plan. RtG’s brochure includes photos of a realistic range of potential scenarios:
Doris is plotting a map. RtG will have daily updates (try the link immediately below this post). S and D will write from time to time. Your in box has been warned.

Hmm, that deer looks suspiciously like the one that took a bite out of our map. Beware the map eating deer of Nara.
