Sid and Doris on the Eastern Shore

In which Sid and Doris trade on their slight knowledge of boats and cars to make another mini adventure.

For our reader(s) in the UK, the Eastern shore may bring to mind a visit to Hunstanton (known to the Hunstanton tourist board as Sunny Hunny) or perhaps Frinton. But, no, Sid and Doris are bound for the Eastern seaboard of America.

Matt Peckham, who found and looked after the Jolly Green Giant in New Jersey, decided to have a birthday or to celebrate the one he was going to have anyway (if the Lord be willing and the creek don’t rise). There will be many old cars present at his party, some to drive. Sid and Doris RSVPed and waited to see what might happen.

What did happen was that Joe Robillard, a well known character from previous episodes (episodes with cars, boats or planes generally), was looking for a not obviously incompetent crew for a voyage in the good ship Nereus from Fort Lauderdale in Florida to Oxford, Maryland. With a pro skipper Sid and Doris were to join a crew last seen aboard Black Watch in Maine.

The mighty voyage starts two weeks before Matt’s car party so with Joe and Betka’s hospitality we have the bones of an adventure, and between those two events the opportunity to roam the north east states.

These are tough assignments but Sid and Doris are ready.

Many thanks to www.thetruesize.com for producing the comparison map above, which is properly adjusted to take account of the Mercator projection distortions.
